Recruiting Software Vs. MS OUTLOOK

Recruiting software must have a good easy to use interface to MS OUTLOOK

Keywords:
recruiting software, staffing software. executive search software, applicant tracking, recruitment, resume database software

We have started to upgrade our interface to MS OUTLOOK in our recruiting software. OUTLOOK is has a tremendous usage (might want to say “OUTLOOK has tremendous value and most executive search recruiters are already using it”) Most executive search recruiters evaluating recruiting software are already using OUTLOOK.

Can OUTLOOK be used as a total solution for a recruiter?

No, it cannot. But many recruiter prospects come to us with this challenge. They are heavy users of OUTLOOK but they have exhausted the limits of OUTLOOK as a recruiting tool. However, they want to continue using some of the OUTLOOK features. The challenge for recruiting software is to provide the recruiter with recruitment software that blends the use of OUTLOOK with their recruiting software. The real challenge for us vendors is some tasks performed by OUTLOOK are best done by a recruiting system whose primary focus is Applicants/Candidates and Clients.

So we have a customer who definitely needs more recruiting software power, but they are desperately hanging on to features in OUTLOOK. They want to continue using them because they are comfortable with them. Change is always traumatic and downtime can be expected. Downtime for a recruiter can be catastrophic.

So what should a recruiting software vendor do when they introduce their product to a customer who is a heavy OUTLOOK user? Should we insist that the customer stop using OUTLOOK and start using our product for tasks they were performing in OUTLOOK? Sometimes yes, sometimes no.

Good recruiting/staffing software needs to adapt into an OUTLOOK environment and the recruiter must be able to continue sometimes less effective steps than if they were to abandon OUTLOOK all together. Efficiency is not necessarily the final word for a recruiter to be successful. Sometimes we as vendors lose track of our goals and make efficiency and features into deities they don’t deserve. If a good recruiter is comfortable, happy and doing a good job, is there any reason to turn his or her life upside down in the hopes that after the ravages of change they will come out better for it. I don’t think so. Many recruiting companies lose good recruiters this way.

So I think good recruiting software has to provide options where OUTLOOK can be used, or not used, without affecting the recruiting system. Data must flow freely between the two systems. The recruiter must be allowed to continue to perform certain tasks that are more comfortable in OUTLOOK. HOWEVER, NOT AT THE EXPENSE OF THE RECRUITING SYSTEM!

What makes OUTLOOK so useful but not a complete recruiting system? The biggest difference is OUTLOOK is targeted for its user and all his or her activities, email, contacts and notes. But it is the view of a single user. Recruiting software is primarily geared for collaboration and the compiling and organizing of information on clients and applicants. OUTLOOK could care less if someone in the contact is an applicant or client. Outlook’s method of storing information as notes, contacts and even resumes does not lend itself to the one critical need of a recruiter, searching for candidates or clients that have a particular work history or job need that demands certain skills. OUTLOOK does not lend itself very well to bringing a job order or requisition together as a complete project. The pieces such as candidate notes, references and interviews have to be manually put together. A recruiting system brings this information together as the natural course of filling a position. When you look up a candidate in a recruiting system you generally know all about them i.e., all contacts, notes, resume, interviews, salary, work history etc… When you look up a client it is generally the same thing, all contacts, and plans for contact, positions filled and progress on assignments.

OUTLOOK is not designed for this natural gathering of information as a recruiter works, so using OUTLOOK alone as recruiting software eventually bogs the recruiter down as the number of applicants and clients increase.

Good recruiting software should not bog down as the numbers of clients and applicants increase.

How do we keep recruiters happy using our recruitment software and still not getting bogged down using all the neat features in OUTLOOK? Not very easy, but there are some key points that recruiting software must be able to do with OUTLOOK.

• Since OUTLOOK has a built in PDA interface the recruiting software should have an exporting and importing feature to OUTLOOK that is expressly designed for PDA use. It makes no sense to for the recruiting software to have a separate PDA interface.
• Recruitment software should have it’s own calendar system independent of OUTLOOK. BUT the two calendars must be able to talk to each other. If an entry is made in the OUTLOOK calendar there must be an option to post to the recruiting software calendar and vice versa. Implementing a Calendar interface to OUTLOOK is full of land mines and can easily lead to unwieldy tasks imposed on the recruiter.
• A recruiter’s notes are always about an individual, either a client or applicant. OUTLOOK notes don’t necessarily attach a note to a client or applicant and I think this is where the OUTLOOK note system should be customized to identify people. I think notes should go only one way to the recruiting system notes. Porting notes from the recruiting system to OUTLOOK notes makes no sense.
• Emails of applicants and clients should definitely be available in the recruiting system. We are still undecided if they should be redundant residing in both the “pst” file and the recruiting software. What is definite is a good filtering interface so the recruiting system only accesses emails of clients and applicants.
• Batch emailing to clients and applicants is a must for recruiting software if it is going to have any CRM capabilities. OUTLOOK makes it tough to batch email because of its security features.
• Outlook’s contacts can either be expected to be all clients and applicants or have an identifier that says that they are not either, and therefore not part of the recruiting system.

Interfacing to OUTLOOK is a tough job, especially since it is constantly changing. But bottom line, I believe recruiting software can be judged by its interface to OUTLOOK.

Chat Software, Live Help Software, Customer Support Software

Chat software is a tool offered by some websites which allows the visitors to get real time support. The user will typically click on a menu button to open a chat window. A live representative of the site will answer any questions which the visitor has. A monthly fee will usually be charged to visitors in order to use this service. It is also possible to purchase a script which will allow you to run the software on your own server.

When you choose a live chat software, it is important to make sure it offers you the best features available. You should be able to monitor the visitors who come to your site, and this should be done in real time. The purpose of chat software is to effectively communicate with your visitors. People who come to your website are more likely to buy your products if they know they can get live customer support. Live chat software will make your site interactive, and will allow you to effectively communicate with your visitors.

Another feature you should look for in chat software is the ability to customize your window. Adding your custom logo and design to the window will allow it to match the design of your website. This will give your site a professional look. A real time protocol should be offered, and this means that there will be no delays in service. You should not have to refresh the page. Good chat software will also allow you to receive messages offline via email. A good service you should look at is called KariChat, and can be found at karichat.com.

There are a large number of live chat software services online, and it may be hard to decide which one to purchase. You should look at a service which offers a low monthly price for a large number of features. Live chat software will make your customers more loyal to your service, because allowing them to chat with representatives after a sale will give your service a reliable impression. The service should also be compatible with a large number of systems. Using a service which only works with some computers or browsers will limit the number of customers you will have.

Chat software is a powerful tool for both small to medium sized businesses. It allows you to interact with your visitors for a small monthly fee. Traditionally, setting up a PBX system in a traditional office for visitors cost thousands of dollars, and could only be afforded by medium to large enterprises. Live chat software brings customer service to your site, and will increase your sales and revenues. The software which you use should be hosted off a server, and you should also have the ability ot watch multiple sites simultaneously.

Live chat software is good for those who have a ecommerce website. If you are offering a product or service, and it is essential for you to be able to communicate with your customers, chat software is an indispensable tool you will not want to be without.

If you use the internet and have an email address, there is no doubt that you have received a fraudulent email asking you to verify your account information. Many criminals will pose as your bank or credit card company, and will ask for your information in order “verify” your account. In reality, once this information is provided, you are likely to become the victim of a fraud called phishing. This is one of the most notorious forms of internet fraud, and has seen a growth in recent years with the increase in email usage.

Because it costs nothing to send out an email, it is possible to send out hundreds of thousands of emails within a short time. Criminals know that despite the fact that many people will ignore these emails, a small percentage of recipients will reply. Once this information has been received, criminals will use to it defraud customers, running up high bills or making expensive purchases. Some will even use this information for identity theft. To stop this fraud, a number of anti phishing services are available online.

These services offer software which will track fraudulent email and websites. Many people use this anti phishing software, and by joining them you will be able to fight back against phishing. Many anti phishing services will have a database in which they keep a list of fraudulent websites. They will help you avoid fraudulent emails sent by criminals who wish to take yout data to defraud you. If you have never received a fraudulent email, or have never been to a fake website, you are fortunate.

However, as use of the internet continues to increase, more people will become the victims of fraud unless they take steps to permit it. Despite the fact that there have been many media reports about phishing, and people have been warned never to give sensitive information via email, many still do. This is why it is important to use ant phishing software which will stop you from becoming a victim. Many large companies such as AOL plan to fight the problem by charging customers to send out emails.

This isn’t the answer, and people shouldn’t have to pay in order to be protected. Gralic Wrap is a online service which offers anti phishing software free of charge, and can be found at gralicwrap.com. They offer a phishing protection tool along with a large database of fraudulent sites which will keep you protected and informed. You have the right to use the internet without fear of being defrauded, and you shouldn’t have to resort to paying for emails in order to avoid becoming the victim of fraud.

Phishing is a problem which is only expected to get worse. Criminals are discovering new tricks daily on how to defraud their victims. Though you don’t have to understand how these tricks work, it is important to take the fundamental steps necessary to protect you and your family. Fraud is costly, and millions of dollars each year are lost due to internet fraud.

LabelFive Premier, the new PC software, enables printers to deliver fast, low-cost labels and tickets.

LabelFive produces labels or tickets printed with barcode, address, identification, price and images, including photographs and stock and tracking information.

The design and printing software supports Windows 95, 98 and NT4.0 for use with any label, ticket, laser, inkjet or dot-matrix printer. It is Year 2000 compliant.

LabelFive also offers high speed printing control, using DCL (direct control language) for Eltron, TEC and Star label printers.

Features include text, image, standard and PDF417 barcode printing and Twain and Video For Windows image acquisition interfaces. Internal variable data sources include an Access-based database, date/time, keyboard input and global counter sources.

LabelFive also offers ODBC and SQL drivers for connection to almost any external database, database report printing, batch printing and user-defined security logins. Printing from third party applications is provided by the database-polling ‘Autoprint’ function: ideal for high volume production, it allows the use of several PCs to input details for fast output at any number of printers.

The Autoprint feature also enables a choice of printer to be made for each individual label or ticket, without user intervention, based on the label contents. This means that, by loading one printer with labelstock and another with plain paper, both labels and tickets can be produced in a single print run. It also allows the use of any existing database as a source for label or ticket information, without the need for changes to the database.

Microsoft’s next-generation operating system is coming in early 2007, offering improvements that are both impressive and unprecedented in the Windows world. On Apple’s side of the world, Tiger, the 5th incarnation of Apple’s legendary OS X operating system is still up to challenge as to what Vista has to offer, even if it’s already two years old.

Although Vista and Tiger are almost playing in the same field in terms of features and technology, there’s a major difference in…

Although Vista and Tiger are almost playing in the same field in terms of features and technology, there’s a major difference in the strategy that the two companies made in delivering their next-generation operating systems. Microsoft wanted to bring everything new and shiny to the table all in one big package, while Apple slowly built and perfected a world-class operating system by frequent, less dramatic, major upgrades. This explains why while Windows XP stayed for 5 years without a major upgrade, OS X had 3 major upgrades to its original incarnation in roughly the same time frame.

User Interface

The most noticeable improvements happen here, and rightfully so, since improvements in the user interface are the ones that affect the users first and foremost. Vista seems to have taken many pages from the Tiger book of slick features but also has some features of its own that’s missing from the Apple operating system. I think it’s fair to say that some similarities are really just inevitable end results of improving the current state of the UI in both platforms.

Vista’s icons are now as slick as its Tiger counterparts, supporting icon sizes of up to 256 by 256 pixels. Tiger on the other hand, currently supports only up to 128 by 128 pixel icons. But Vista takes it even further, using what is called as live icons. A live icon visually resembles the actual contents of the document it represent so that a folder’s live icon is shown as a folder icon padded with the thumbnails of the actual files that you’ll see inside the folder. This is very helpful in skimming through your files and folders without opening them. Tiger can only show previews of graphic files.

In Vista, the “My” way of naming user folders such as My Documents, My Music, etc. has been dropped. Now you will only have user folders named Documents, Music and Pictures. Not unlike what Tiger has.

Aero, the user interface of Vista brings to the Windows world lots of transparencies. Application windows in Vista show a translucent border that lets you see through it. This is a feature that OS X once had, but was taken out in Tiger.

Expose, which is perhaps the most innovative UI feature of Tiger, elegantly addressed the window-management problem most users had, especially those who work with lots of windows open. At the touch of a button or at a flick of the mouse, all your windows are miniaturized and smartly tiled across the screen. Vista offers its own take, with a feature called Flip 3D. In Vista’s version, windows are miniaturized and stacked on top of each other, and angled such that you can see enough of each window’s content distinctively, and you use the scroll wheel to go through all the stacked windows. Tiger’s implementation is more usable and convenient than its Vista counterpart.

Widgets vs Gadgets

In Tiger, the days of opening full-blown applications for simple, specific tasks have long been gone. Thanks to Dashboard. With Dashboard, you can install and run mini-applications called widgets that are specially designed (using a relatively easy language) for certain tasks. Widgets include calculator, stocks, dictionary, yellow pages and many others. At the touch of a button, all these can auto-magically appear when you need them, and as quickly, disappear to let you go back to what you’re doing.

Vista sports the same feature, only the mini-applications are called Gadgets, and the Vista version promises more integration with Microsoft’s online service http://Live.com.

Desktop Search

When Vista was first announced many years ago under the code name Longhorn, one of the most impressive promises that Microsoft made about the new operating system is its desktop search capability. However, Apple beat them to the punch in implementing the much needed search technology (and interface).

Tiger’s spotlight search won the hearts of analysts and reviewers when it debuted in October 2004. Both in the main OS’s shell and in the individual applications, Spotlight brought lightning-fast desktop search to the Apple users. The system-wide Spotlight item on Tiger’s menu bar provided a quick way of opening files and applications. With Spotlight, users didn’t need to know exactly where their files are since they can find and open them using a simple and single user interface – the spotlight search field. Vista’s desktop search also promises all the things that Spotlight has, including its integration with Windows Explorer and Control Panel, in the same way that Spotlight integrates with the Finder and the Preferences. In Vista, the desktop search has been placed in the improved Start Menu. Saved searches (in Vista) or Smart Folders (in Tiger) are different implementation of the same kind of innovative feature that both systems have – a way for creating folders that are defined by a certain search criteria, and the contents of which are files that match that certain criteria. Both are live-z.

Security

This is where Tiger has long beaten Windows, but with Vista, Microsoft want to change that, and perhaps even leapfrog what OS X is offering.

In Vista, Internet Explorer (the source of many security headaches) will run in a low rights mode to prevent malicious software entering through the browser from illegally writing files or changing the registry. Vista will also support computers with TPM (Trusted Platform Module) Chips which starts a computer in a secure way such that the hardware and applications are protected from being run by unauthorized users. One of Tiger’s security strengths, the feature that asks for the administrator password when changing critical preferences, has also found its way to Vista. When changing important settings or files, Vista now warns the users and asks for the administrator password. Both Tiger and Vista has support encrypting data on users’ hard disk.

Conclusion

This article tried to compare some of the different aspects of Windows Vista and OS X Tiger, wherever it made sense, since each has its own way of doing things. Tiger has been out for almost two years now, but still holds up its own against Vista. It’s no doubt that some of the features that Vista is promising are better than its Tiger counterpart, but Vista won’t be out until 2007, and by the same time Apple probably would no doubt have at least shown its latest weapon, the upcoming Apple OS X Leopard.

Application of biometric methods allows you to significantly increase the security of your confidential information. Knowing the passphrase will not suffice for the intruder anymore, as he will need to possess the unique physical parameters of the legal owner of the protected data.

The market of biometric authentication means already exists. As a rule, they are represented by expensive hardware/software solutions used for access control in large commercial or public institutions, where the overall cost of information is much higher than the cost of biometric systems themselves. For the majority of companies, firms, small offices, home and mobile computers, where the level of data confidentiality is relatively low, the use of highly expensive biometric systems is not financially justified.

The passphrase analysis method is one of the existing authentication methods. As a rule, it complements the standard password authentication method. In such methods, the user must know the passphrase and should be able to correctly type it using the keyboard. That is how the standard passphrase authentication procedure is extended by biometric keyboard signature authentication.

However, the cost of such a solution will be significantly lower that the cost of biometric systems with a comparable level of authentication errors. For instance, the cost of a biometric system that uses iris scanning lies in the ballpark of 500 dollars, whereas retina scanning systems are priced around 4000 dollars, the cost of the scanner accounting for the largest fraction of the overall cost.

BioKeyLogon is a new original solution in the field of biometric authentication. BioKeyLogon enables you to extend the standard OS login procedure by using a discreet biometric authentication procedure based on keyboard signature. This application works with Windows 2000/2003/XP and is intended for home, small office and corporate use.
The developers of BioKeyLogon solved the following problems:
- The influence of the psychophysical condition of the user has been minimized;
- The process of creating the user’s biometric model has been simplified (usually the user had to enter the password at least 20 times);
- The system’s ability to analyze the indistinct keyboard signature of an “average” user has been improved;
- The system now monitors the dynamics of the user’s keyboard behavior and makes appropriate dynamic changes to the user’s biometric model.

BioKeyLogon fully integrates into the system and stays hidden. Users log into the system the same way they did before, but the software discreetly checks the dynamics of password entry. If this parameter is different from the reference value, the system will react as if an incorrect answer has been entered. If the intruder knows the password only and tries to log into a system protected by BioKeyLogon, the chances of his success will be minimal. The situation will also appear confusing, as the system will report a wrong password notification message for the password that the intruder will deem fully valid.

The procedure of discreet biometric authentication based on keyboard signature is used only for those users that keep a reference keyboard signature stored in their system. Other users will use the standard password-protected login. All biometric data of the system users are stored in an additional secure location.

Nowadays, it’s a sad but true fact that spyware and adware programs are a far greater threat to your internet security than the dreaded computer viruses. Indeed, spyware, adware and other so-called malware (such as key loggers and trojan horses) actually constitute the biggest single online threat to your privacy and the security of your data…

Nowadays, it’s a sad but true fact that spyware and adware programs are a far greater threat to your internet security than the dreaded computer viruses. Indeed, spyware, adware and other so-called malware (such as key loggers and trojan horses) actually constitute the biggest single online threat to your privacy and the security of your data.

It’s also a major reason for system slowdowns on computers, as these types of programs generally use up precious system resources including RAM (memory) and hard drive space.
So, let’s look at some basic facts about spyware and adware, where these programs come from, what they are, and what you can do about protecting yourself.

Spyware comes in various guises and forms, but basically, it is a program or piece of information that is secretly placed on your computer, that sends data about you or your computer habits to someone else on the Internet, without your knowledge. This can be a company that is collecting data, or a thief seeking to steal access to your computer or the information held in your database (passwords, credit card details and so on).

Spyware can also be a program that places unwanted ads on your computer, often in the form of a malicious cookie. A cookie is a little piece of information placed in your web browser to track your web habits, which, in its more generally benign form, is useful as, for example, a web site can see you have visited it before and let you on without a registration process. Again, in its more benign guise, a cookie can help you by keeping track of your progress through a web store. They are also used to customize website ads to your likes and dislikes.

But, obviously, when they are used for spyware or adware purposes, a cookie is not a welcome guest on your PC!
Spyware programs can get into your computer in several different ways. Sometimes they arrive as an automatic download from a website you are surfing. Porn and online gambling sites are notorious for this, for example.

Sometimes, if you download a free or illegal piece of software, they are embedded in the installation process, or spyware can get on your computer via an email attachment that you shouldn’t have opened. (Tip here – if an e-mail comes from an unrecognized source with an attachment, DO NOT open it – it’s almost guaranteed to be some sort of program that you definitely don’t want!)

Spyware and adware are bad news for several reasons:
They hog precious system resources like memory and hard disk space. If you computer runs much slower than it did previously, then it probably is infected with spyware. If you have never done a spyware scan, then it’s almost guaranteed that there is spyware on your system slowing things down.

They can seriously compromise your privacy and security, providing outsiders with information about your computer habits. For example, by installing a keylogger, spyware can capture your keystrokes and send it to a third party.
This can potentially expose your user IDs and passwords to thieves.
Other program such as trojans which allows someone to log into your computer remotely and use it for their own purposes like sending spam or launching malicious attacks on other computers on the Internet, making it look like you are at fault.

So, it’s bad! Let’s look at how to get rd of it.
There are lots of both paid and free anti-spyware programs out there, and, like all things in life, some are better than others. The question often asked is, which is better, a free program or a paid one.

The simple answer is that the best approach is a combination of the two, and, unlike anti-virus programs, you can run more than one anti-spyware program on your system without any problems.

First thing to do is to install the totally free Spybot Search and Destroy program, which will eliminate 70-85 per cent of all known spyware.
The, invest a little money in a good paid program like Spyware Doctor, NoAdware or Spyware Nuker to complete the job for you. Yes, I know that it means spending some money, but if it can prevent someone stealing your credit card details, for example, then it’s a sure fire thing that its going to be money well spent.

Another advantage of the paid programs is that they generally have a more effective “pro-active” nature to them than the free programs do. In other words, they are usually far better at stopping spyware and adware actually getting into your PC in the first place, and, clearly, preventing the problem is far easier and less time consuming than having to deal with it once your PC becomes infected.
Are you annoying of adware and spyware every time you open any websites? They have now reached epidemic proportions. They are every where in the cyber world. Here are four methods to remove or simply avoid adware and spyware without spending a dime on the latest “anti-virus” software.

1. Do not use Internet Explorer. Internet Explorer is like Swiss cheese. It is open to the world by default. Microsoft is continually releasing patches to fix all the flaws in the Internet Explorer 6.X and lower versions of the browser. Although it can be “secured” by increasing the security it may loose much of its functionality once set to maximum security with certain exploitable features off.

2. It is highly recommended you should use Firefox. If you don’t use the Internet much, than perhaps you don’t know much about Firefox. All you need to know is that it is a browser that works REALLY well and has great security features.

3. Use a software or hardware firewall (not just Window XP Service Pack 2’s firewall). This may sound expensive and hard to do but it is not. If you have a DSL or broadband cable connection your Internet Service Provider (ISP) may have given you a DSL/Cable router with a firewall built in. All you have to do is turn it on. This may require you to take a few minutes to read the manual. If your ISP did not give you a DSL or Cable broadband router with a built in firewall you can spend anywhere from $20 – $60 (or sometimes even cheaper with a mail-in rebate) to get a router. If you have DSL you will need a DSL router. If you have Cable broadband ISP you will need a Cable Router. Brands such as Linksys have built in firewalls and a feature called NAT, Network Address Translation, which is very effective since it hides your real IP address from the Internet. All routers come with instruction on how to hook them up. If you want to keep you computer security free, just use a free software firewall.

4. Remove spyware/adware with free anti-spyware, anti-adware software. Other two excellent methods of cleaning your system for free are Lavasoft’s Adaware and Spybot Search & Destroy.

It is better to use all of the above methods. Being proactive by surfing with a decent browser and getting a firewall is important, but it also helps to know about a couple of good anti-adware/spyware applications. There are many great forums on the Internet dedicated to doing nothing but finding and cleaning such malware. Chances are if your system is infected with it, hundreds of others before you have been infected and have already figured out how to get rid of the malware.

Nowadays, you might have noticed of a threatening word “Spyware”. Spyware software is becoming annoyance for the companies. Spyware is likely to be verified as a great damager to the companies. It is not so noticeable like spam and virus assaults to the systems. Spyware could be destructive and cause financial losses.

Spyware is almost an invisible software programs that collects and transmits personal or company’s important data through the Internet without being noticed. The transferred data could be used for smashing up your company’s credit or might hard hit its profits. Spyware is also commonly acknowledged as Adware, Malware, Sneakware and Snoopware.

Entry point of Spyware: It could enter your network by auto-download software that automatically downloaded to your network, even without user’s acknowledgement. It could also enter with software, which is downloaded by user that includes Spyware program. Most common entry of this software is pop-ups, which appears while opening any site. The pop-ups are very attractively designed to allure user to click it.

The Spyware software is not even blocked by firewall programs, as user itself allows it, of-course, due to unawareness. Similarly, the usual antivirus programs are also unable not block it, due to they don’t seem as wicked as viruses.

Safeguard against Spyware: User should completely read and understand the license agreement before downloading any software. Avoid downloading unknown and fallacious software from the internet. Keep away from clicking pop-up that put forward mouthwatering offers.

The constant use of anti-Spyware software: Often use of anti Spyware could prevent entering such harmful programs to your network. The best precautious step is that, a user could apply to block Spyware access via gateway security solutions like the NetApp Internet access and security (IAS) solution, which stops admittance to Web sites offering Spyware.

There are several anti-spyware programs available out there. These programs search and eliminate Spyware and adware. They can detect and sweep off huge number of adware files and modules.
Some of these programs also clean program and web-usage path from your network that is very helpful if the system is shared. There also some free downloadable software on authentic sites like www.1888softwaredownloads.com, www.download.com, www.mcafee.com, www.spywareinfo.com, www.all-internet-security.com, www.tucows.com etc or you can use keyword “free antispyware download” in search.

So be precautious while downloading any software from the net. Make sure you do not download or acquire anti-Spyware program without checking its authenticity. It doesn’t happen often, but when it enters would create immense destruction.

Control exactly how long and at what time your kids can access the PC. Set your own schedules depending on certain days of the week, set allowed time intervals and combined time limits.

Kids can spend endless hours playing. Unfortunately, playing computer games is neither healthy nor educating. Limiting time spent by your kids in front of the computer screen is a vital necessity if you care about your kids’ physical and mental health.

Control exactly how long and at what time your kids can access the PC. Vista User Time Manager (http://www.vistafolder.com/) is not only easier than its competitors, but comes with several access schedules that were proven to work superbly under various circumstances. Each schedule controls the number of hours and minutes your kids can use the computer on a daily and weekly basis. Don’t want to push too much control on them? It’s easy to set Vista User Time Manager to shut down the computer when it’s time to turn the lights out.

Vista User Time Manager is not just easy to use, it’s also a powerful and highly customizable parental control tool. Besides the convenient pre-defined access schedules, Vista User Time Manager allows configuring just about any aspect of its behavior. Set your own schedules depending on certain days of the week, working days or weekends, set allowed time intervals and specify daily and combined time limits. Ever thought of limiting your kids to just 30 minutes of using your computer per day, weekdays only, from 4 to 6pm? That’s easy. Want to allow an extra couple of hours on a weekend before 9pm? That’s not difficult either. In addition, you can set an aggregate limit, allowing your kids, for example, to access the PC for no longer than 3 hours a week in total.

Vista User Time Manager can control not only when your kids can access the computer, but also what they can access. A flexible access control system extends Windows security features by allowing you to specify which files and folders that will not be accessible to the kids.

Sounds complicated? Well, there are several great schedules to start with! Not happy with any of them? Changing one to suit your needs and saving it as your own is a matter of a minute or two.

If you have many family members of different age groups, setting different access policies might be a requirement. Older kids will probably need more time and at different hours doing their homework than the younger ones. There is absolutely no need to create and maintain a separate schedule for each kid in the family! Vista User Time Manager makes it easy to group users to create group policies. When you change a schedule, the change will apply to all group members at once.

Controlling the time is great, but how does it look from the kids’ viewpoint? Vista User Time Manager does nothing disrupting. Just before the allowed time allotment is about to expire, Vista User Time Manager pops a gentle message informing the user and suggesting that they log off. Of course, you can set your own message and timeouts. If the child does not log off before the time expires, Vista User Time Manager performs the logoff automatically by closing applications and logging off the account. If that happens to be you who are working on the computer at that time, simply entering your master password will prevent the logoff.

Vista User Time Manager fully supports Windows XP and the newest Windows Vista.

Vista User Time Manager is an invaluable tool for anyone having kids and computers. Try your copy for free by downloading from: http://www.vistafolder.com/

Reclaim Your PC from the Internet Spies

Most Internet users recognize the need of protecting their computers against viruses, as the vast majority of us sooner or later become painfully aware of these nasty little programs when they shut down our PC, spam our mailbox or delete our files.

Keywords:
spyware removal,free spyware, adware removal

Viruses are, however, not the only malicious software
programs out there. The newest addition to the evil software
family is the so called Spywares and a good anti-virus
program or firewall is not enough to safeguard against these
clever programs.

Spywares are known by many names such as adware,
trojans, malware, browser hijackers etc. The thing they all
have in common is that they will transmit your personal
information to companies and individuals who have an
interest in knowing about your surfing habits, online
purchases, credit worthiness, interests, web searchs, chats,
birth date and even your credit card number. The list goes on
and on, since Spywares are constructed by promotional
companies who need to know as much as possible about the
online consumers to target them effectively. By ewes dropping
on you online, these companies hope to be more successful
when sending out promotional materials.

Spyware usually enter your PC by piggybacking on other
software downloads. Every time you use downloaded or
otherwise shared files, including Freeware, Shareware or p2p
sharing programs, you stand the risk of unknowingly infecting
your computer with Spyware. Even confirmed virus free music
files, films and computer programs can have Spyware
stowaways. Once inside your computer, they will hide, monitor
all your actions and promptly start telling your secrets to
anyone willing to listen.

Contrary to most viruses the Spywares actually make an effort
not to be observed. Since they wonЎЇt cause obvious harm
such as deleting important files or shutting down your
computer, they can thrive in your PC for years without you
noticing, sending out massive amounts of information about
all your online habits.

At a first glance, you might find this annoying but essentially
harmless. Why not let the companies send me promotional
material about things I am actually interested in? Spyware is
however far from harmless, since the infiltration by Spyware
not only let the companies know about your latest online
search, but also much more private matters such as credit
card details, online purchases of medicine and your private e-
mail correspondence with family, friends and business
partners. There are even examples of how this massive
gathering of personal information has led to an overall loss of
privacy and stolen identities. In the computerized world of
today it is not hard to imagine the amount of damage and
personal suffering the fraudulent use of a personsЎЇ identity
can cause.

It is obvious to anyone that we must start combating the
Spyware programs, but the best way of doing this is not to
panic and pull the plug on your PC, never go online again and
keep five feet away from all Freeware. There is a much better
solution: http://www.supportcave.com

One of the first questions for multinational company/corporation to move to new market is ERP implementation, customization, report tuning, integration for newly established subsidiary. The specific of South American and in particularly Brazilian market is manufacturing or production outsourcing to Brazil. We will try to provide the first level comparison or readiness of the major worldwide ERP brands: Microsoft Business Solutions, Oracle (we will not touch PeopleSoft & JDEdwards, just Oracle E-Business Suite) and SAP (where we will give you update on reasonable solution for mid-size companies – SAP Business One). Also we will be concentrating on manufacturing-type of subsidiary, the franchisees network deserves special publication.

• Localization Challenge. Each large country: Brazil, India, Russia has unique taxation system and special rules in the accounting practice itself. This is why we see locally developed ERP/MRP applications flourishing on the corporate ERP market. At the same time – these specifics create some barriers and challenges for worldwide ERP brands to penetrate on the market. In the case of Brazil, we would like to mention such regional ERP as Microsiga. Please note that Multilanguage is usually easily resolvable issue, comparing to tax code.

• SAP Business One. This ERP solution, coming from SAP deserves very high scores, it is pretty much ready with tax code, Multilanguage feature (Brazilian Portuguese). SAP Business One has MRP as well as Production modules plus integration to high end SAP is also available for transaction consolidation to the headquarters in Europe or in the USA. SAP Business One has about 8 thousand installations Worldwide and it is very advanced and popular in Latin America, where tax code is rather standard one: Venezuela, Argentina, Mexico, Chili, etc. SAP Business One launch in Brazil is the fall of 2005.

• Microsoft Business Solutions. MBS has two ERP applications for Brazilian market – Microsoft Navision and Microsoft Axapta. Navision has several dozens of implementations, while Axapta will be available soon (in 2006). We see several blends of Navision localizations for Brazil. Axapta localization is currently on the way to be released. Talking about Navision – MBS promotes Navision on the emerging markets, such as Russia, East Europe, plus it is traditionally strong in the Europe. Also take into consideration very good Navision positioning in manufacturing industry. We do not want at the same time to deemphasize Axapta – it has very high potential. In East Europe and especially Russia – Microsoft indicates that number of Axapta installations is close to Navision implementations and Axapta was designed relatively recently, so please compare these two: Navision & Axapta before making final decision. Just to mention, that Great Plains is not popular in Brazil, however it was partially localized and if you have corporate standard to use Microsoft Dynamics GP worldwide – it should be available for you. Microsoft Project Green will lead to “merge” of its ERPs: Microsoft Dynamics will be the final merged ERP product, it will harmonically integrate the pieces of Microsoft Dynamics NAV (Navision), Microsoft Dynamics AX (Axapta), etc.

• Oracle E-Business Suite. Also known as Oracle Financials and Oracle Applications – Oracle has traditionally strong positions in Latin America and Brazil. Oracle has conception of standard functionality (which could be used worldwide) and local or regional (language, special forms, tax engine, etc.). If your company has Oracle Financials/Applications implemented in the headquarters – you should check on the status of Oracle Financial localization for Brazilian or Latin American regional market. Oracle E-Business Suite also usually has extensive customization and integration components to custom Oracle databases.

Protection From Known And Unknown Viruses

Although they often come with cute names like “I Love You” and “Melissa,” the damage that computer viruses can do to your machine and files is anything but adorable.

For years, the security protocol for protecting your computer has been the same:

1. Don’t open e-mail attachments from unknown senders.

2. Install antivirus software.

3. Make backup copies of your files in case they get corrupted.

The problem with most antivirus programs is that they rely on a “virus database” to scan for certain types of code, based on known viruses. Except that the people who create viruses are always coming up with malicious new ways to infect computers-which means that antivirus software needs to be updated regularly to be effective, and that’s only if the software maker has identified the offending code of the latest virus and created a “patch.”

Fortunately, there’s a new kind of virus protection that prevents infection by any sort of virus-and will continue to be effective even as viruses evolve. Known as a “virtual environment,” this sort of technology runs programs and executable files (attachments) in an isolated environment, preventing viruses or malware from harming your computer.

One example of this new generation of antivirus software is Virtual Sandbox from Fortres Grand Corporation. This evolutionary Internet security system uses virtualization technology to isolate and eliminate threats and prevent unauthorized access to personal files, local networks and system settings.

Virtual Sandbox is a desktop security system that takes advantage of virtualization technology, providing the freedom and control to surf the Internet and open e-mail attachments without worrying about viruses and other threats. The program creates an isolated environment on the desktop where access to computer hard disks and personal files is protected, removing the fear of known and unknown threats, including zero-day exploits-viruses that are launched before patches have been developed-that traditional antivirus solutions will never protect against. Unlike traditional antivirus software, it does not degrade system performance with file scanning operations.

This review aims to make you acquainted with Projetex – a simple and powerful project management tool for translation agencies.

The idea to create single-purpose project management software for translation industry became obvious after desperate attempts to adjust commonly used MS Project and Intuit QuickBooks to the specific needs of translation agency.

Projetex is ideal for project managing, corporate and freelance workflow management, data and files sharing within company. It covers all aspects of project managing: communication with clients, corporate experts and freelancers, tracking the project implementation, issuing financial documentation etc., saving the time and energy on every stage.

The developer, AIT, have been working, in the translation industry for eight years now and is known to thousands freelancers and translation companies as both a serious translation agency and supplier of effective translator-oriented software (Translation Office 3000, AnyCount, CATCount, WinLexic, ExactSpent, ClipCount). Projetex was developed on the base of the most efficient and time-proved of them – Translation Office 3000, and reflects the considerable experience in managing translation and localization projects.

No wonder Projetex becomes popular in other fields (like publishing business or advertising) with similar workflow structure as it provides the tools for coping with most common project managing tasks.
The most important advantages provided by Projetex 2006 include:

Automatic folder creation, thought-out structuring and simple access release brain space for more important or pleasant things. In addition file management takes up to three times less time.

Built-in instruments for issuing financial documents; invoices are linked with jobs, payments can be linked with invoices. No need to underscore how convenient is that!

Having all information stored in one place simplifies and quickens the process of locating and correcting mistakes, if any occur.

The option of automatic calculation of profitability balance for each project will be undoubtedly estimated at its true worthy by project managers. As well as the other possibility provided by Projetex…

…color differentiation for overdue/deadline today/deadline in the future projects, jobs, invoices and graphic scheduler tool for presentation of all current projects, client, freelance, expert jobs and their terms.

Price-managing with Projetex: you enter the price only once and do not care about remembering it anymore: the next times you get it simply clicking the Price button.

For those, who want to provide the analysis of working effectiveness all kinds of custom reports are available: for example, you can see the dependence between the number of projects from certain client and freelancers involved.

Accounting is possible using different currencies for different clients and freelancers. All financials are automatically translated into company’s base currency selected by you so that you can see the complete picture, avoiding multiple manual converting operations and inevitable associated mistakes.

Possibility to see separately payments module, invoices module, quotes module etc. allows you to concentrate on the exact task you are working at and not get distracted by the information you do not need at the moment.

From the other hand, multi-dimensional view of the database and cross-references gives the possibility to see the consolidated information on particular client/project/corporate expert/freelancer. Thus saving you time and nerves on switching between pages or documents and keeping in mind what information you are looking for and what you have already found.

You can make your invoices and PO’s look as pretty/strange/simple/overloaded with pictures/etc. as you want – templates for invoices, purchase orders, quotes, job assignments and price-lists are completely customizable.

Connect Offices and share files and database of clients, projects, jobs, freelance and in-house experts.

All these together allow project manager to work at a considerably larger number of projects at a time.

Projetex will undoubtedly suit small companies as well, where single team members may have two or more of roles combined, due to its flexible and detailed settings for access level assigning.

And what users like most about Projetex – all its advanced functions are hidden under the simple, user-friendly interface. It makes Projetex one of the most efficient instruments for reducing time and costs expenses on project managing.

Still, words are but wind and the proof of the pudding is in the eating: AIT provides the possibility to “taste” their project management software for 30 days absolutely free of charge (a clever move, as people get used to good things very quickly – and do not hesitate to buy the license). In addition, on registering your copy of Projetex, you become eligible for highly competent and complaisant support (though they never hesitate to help even if you are only evaluating their products).

SSL Certificates are the basic requirement for Intra-Organizational Security & Virtual Private Netwo

SSL Certificates is the most reliable means of securing your network. It is important for any organization to maintain the security.

Keywords:
SSL Certificates, certification authority, SSL Certificates for networks, SSL Certificates, SSL, Digital Certificates

There are many SSL Certification Authorities with Browser based security for Intra-Organizational security. As companies become more decentralized, they find themselves with employees all over the country and around the world. This presents a challenge for network managers – how to make their networks accessible for their staff as well as maintain reliable security measures. Network managers set up Virtual Private networks to achieve this task. Basically VPN’s let you turn the Internet into your corporate network. Through the use of encryption, VPN connections are protected from outside users, safeguarding data and allowing the secure, remote use of important applications. SSL Certificates help you secure your VPN connections in the easiest way.

SSL Certificates are based on the SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) protocol. SSL is a protocol for managing the security of message transmission on the Internet. The SSL standard is not a single protocol, but rather a set of accepted data transfer routines that are designed to protect the integrity of transmitted messages. SSL relies on certificates – digital identification – and keys. Certificates include the name of the certificate authority that issued the certificate, the name of the entity to which the certificate was issued, the entity’s public key, and time stamps that indicate the certificate’s expiration date. SSL Certificates on your Virtual Private Networks or Intranets Serves the same purpose as Internet SSL – they make the communication between a server and a browser safe and secure.

Thus, if you have a large employee base which is spread across, you should consider SSL Certificates as a good means to secure your internal communications. The SSL VPN can be a good choice for schools, libraries and public kiosks where trust can be an issue but easy access is also important. Applications include Web-based e-mail, business and government directories, databases for educational institutions, file sharing, remote backup, remote system management and consumer-level e-commerce.

Recover Deleted Files

An introduction to the recovery of lost and mistakenly deleted files on computers running Windows operating system.

Keywords:
recover lost files, restore deleted files, undelete, unerase, ntfs recovery, recover deleted files, unformat

Lost some important files? Can’t find your documents anymore? A folder with photos is gone?

The problem of lost or mistakenly deleted files is quite common. Even if you backup your most important files frequently, there’s always a chance that something happens right before the next backup. Home computers are often shared with other family members, so some files may be deleted simply as a matter of misunderstanding. For example, your son may think that you have already those photos and videos from your last vacation burned to a CD. So, he erases the photos and videos to free some space for a new game…

Is there a way to recover deleted files?

Yes. This operation is known as undelete, or unerase. Many years ago, before the introduction of Windows 95 with its Recycle Bin, small command-line utilities named ‘undelete’ or ‘unerase’ were supplied with operating systems to make possible recovering of mistakenly removed files. The undelete feature was also built into File Manager of earlier versions of Windows. In Windows 3.1, if you removed a file by mistake, you could choose to recover it by clicking the corresponding option in File Manager.

At this point, you may wonder: why those small utilities aren’t there in the modern versions of Windows?

The Recycle Bin offers far better way to deal with removed files. It’s safe and user friendly. You don’t need to type commands with mysterious keys and switches anymore. Just click your Recycle Bin and recover files, if you need to do so.

Starting with Windows 95, files are not really deleted. Instead they are put into a special folder and are preserved there for a given period of time. Settings of the Recycle Bin can be adjusted by the user, including the general capacity and the preservation time. Defaults are pretty safe: files are stored for several weeks, and the general capacity of the Recycle Bin is around 10% of your hard disk’s space. When the time is over, files are finally deleted and can’t be recovered. Well, if you didn’t care about the deleted files for several weeks, most probably you don’t need them at all. It’s reasonable.

Convenient?

In some ways, yes. However, you shouldn’t forget that the files aren’t deleted if they are put into the Recycle Bin. No space is freed. If it’s space that you need right now, you should empty your Recycle Bin, or shouldn’t use it at all.

Windows offers an alternative way to delete files. You can press a “Shift” key (left or right, it doesn’t matter) on your keyboard while deleting to avoid putting the file into the Recycle Bin. Thus the space occupied by the file is freed immediately.

But with this method, you are risking to wipe out important files. This operation can’t be undone. At least, not with the usual recovery from the Recycle Bin.

That’s where you may need a recovery tool, like Advanced NTFS Recovery (http://ntfsrecovery.com). This easy to use utility is able to scan your hard disk for lost and deleted files. If the required files can be recovered, the program will recover them, even if the file system itself is damaged. The program takes advantage of all NTFS features (http://ntfsrecovery.com/a-ntfs.php) (if you are still using FAT, it’s no problem, as Advanced NTFS Recovery can deal with different file systems; but you may consider (http://ntfsrecovery.com/fat-ntfs.php) upgrading to NTFS (http://ntfsrecovery.com/fat-to-ntfs.php)), and it can even access files in the ‘raw’ mode. Using its preview feature, you can see content of deleted files even without recovering them, which allows to estimate chances.

The worst part of it is that, once a file is deleted, your system can overwrite it any time. This can’t happen if the file is in the Recycle Bin, but once the Recycle Bin is emptied, a new file can be written in the same area any moment. You can’t control the process. You can’t tell the system which of the deleted files are more important for you than the rest.

So, let’s consider the above example with a son wanting to install a new game.

If you catch him right after he deletes your pictures, there are very good chances that you will be able to restore all your photos and videos. However, if he has already managed to install his game, some of the valued files (if not all) may be overwritten. If so, they can’t be recovered anymore.

But don’t jump to quick conclusions. File system (http://ntfsrecovery.com/ntfs.php) follows its own rules when writing data, so you may find that although there’s virtually no space left on your hard disk, the deleted files are still recoverable. Don’t hesitate to perform a scan. Advanced NTFS Recovery doesn’t write any data while scanning for lost files, so there is no danger of accidental overwriting.

Well, and if you don’t have recovery tools on your computer yet? Before using a program you need to install it, which means that program files should be written to your hard disk. Won’t they overwrite your valuable files?

The answer is… they may. Every single file, even a small one, can damage deleted files. It is impossible to say what files will be overwritten. Most important? Completely unimportant?

At this point, it is clear that if you want to restore deleted files, you should allow the system to write as few files as possible. If you can prevent the system from writing at all, chances to recover files are about 100%!

Yes. If you avoid saving files on the partition where the deleted files were, you may be able to restore every single file. No magic, just a bit of good programming.

But then, what about installing the program? Is there a possibility to install it safely, without damaging the files you need to restore?

Even if your computer has only one hard disk, there can be several logical drives. It’s quite a common practice to create at least two logical drives: C and D. If that’s the case with your computer and if you have lost files only on one of the drives, you can with no worry install Advanced NFTS Recovery onto another drive. The deleted files will remain absolutely safe.

However, there may be other situations. For example, what if your computer has only one logical drive? Or if you don’t remember where exactly the files to restore were?

In such circumstances you may install the program onto removable or external media. Your USB memory stick or external hard drive are ideal solutions.

The most important thing to remember when you want to recover deleted files is the following: avoid using the drive where you lost files. Don’t save anything there. Shut down programs that need to save something from time to time (for example, Microsoft Word creates a backup copy every 10 minutes), but be careful, as some programs save different kinds of files when shutting down. And, of course, don’t panic. Your nerves are more important than any documents, even if it doesn’t seem so in the moment.

Registry Cleaners: Why do you need one?

If you have computer slowdowns or processes running that you have never even heard of then you need a registry cleaner.

Keywords:
registry cleaner, registry clean, free registry cleaner, registry fix, registry cleaners, windows registry repair, free registry cleaner download, free ware registry cleaner, microsoft registry cleaner, windows xp registry cleaner, free windows registry cleaner

The registry is the place where your computer stores the configuration information about your computer and your installed programs so that your operating system can use them.

Maintaining the registry is an important step in keeping your computer healthy. Registry problems can include slow performance, computer crashing, and the annoyingh Microsoft Windows error messages.

If any of these describes you as a computer user:

- Has old drivers on their system that have not been removed.

- Installs or uninstalls software very often.

- Have third party programs running such as Spyware and Adware (you can’t stop these from being installed)

- Remove software by deleting them from the Program Files folder.

- Installs or Uninstalls hardware.

Then you absolutely need to be repairing your Microsoft Windows registry regularly! All of the above leave traces in your registry that will only hurt your computer in the long run. If you don’t clean your computer to fix your registry than you are going to be in a whole world of trouble.

Make sure that you backup your registry before you try to clean or fix anything. Most registry cleaners have registry backup automatically for you, but be sure to check them out. Remember, don’t try to edit anything in the registry yourself unless you are very computer savvy.

Why do you need a registry cleaner? Registry cleaners are important because it protects your PC from harmful processes. Is your computer slowing down for no apparent reason? Are you having errors that are not solved by your anti-virus or anti-spyware program? Your PC might be affected by applications that are running without your knowledge. Registry cleaners are a must! Registry cleaners ensure that your registry is clean.

Some errors are just a quick registry fix, while others could be more problematic.

If you keep your registry clean, free of viruses and spyware your computer will last much longer. Spend the time or money now for a registry cleaner to save you even more time or money later down the road.

If you are short on cash then there is a free registry cleaner available that I use exclusively. The program is called Error Nuker and it is a free ware registry cleaner. Error Nuker works on Windows XP, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows NT4, and Windows 2000. Microsoft Windows does NOT come with a registry cleaner.

PNG Icons in Microsoft Windows Vista

This article explains differences between Windows XP and Windows Vista icons. It describes Microsoft extensions to the icon file format and gives a short tutorial on making Vista compatible icons.

Keywords:
vista,xp,icon,edit,make,create

Microsoft Windows Vista, the next version of Windows, is scheduled to arrive in H2 2006. Vista is loaded with new technologies, the most visible being an enhanced graphical user interface. Vista’s user interface improves rendering of text, allows smooth, eye-pleasing window transition effects, and utilizes high-resolution icons.

Icon in Windows Vista Explorer

Windows Vista Explorer makes use of high-resolution 256×256 icons. While 256×256 pixels seem to be too much for current displays, Vista is able to dynamically downscale images to any size. By using large icons, Vista Explorer is already prepared for future displays with higher resolution [DPI].

The image size is controlled by a slider control in Windows Explorer. This slider replaces the discrete view modes in Windows XP. Vista makes it possible to assign different view mode and different icons sizes to each folder.

Support for high resolution icon is not limited to system icons. Our test showed that a custom icon with a large image is accepted and used by Windows Explorer without problems. Vista icon screeshots and examples.

PNG Compressed Vista Icons

A typical Vista icon contains 12 images:
* 16×16 pixels in 16 colors, 256 colors, and truecolor+alpha
* 32×32 pixels in 16 colors, 256 colors, and truecolor+alpha
* 48×48 pixels in 16 colors, 256 colors, and truecolor+alpha
* 256×256 pixels in 16 colors, 256 colors, and truecolor+alpha

The ability to put 256×256 pixels image inside an icon is not new. This feature was available in Windows XP and in previous systems. The problem is that an icon with all 12 formats requires more than 400kB. This is considerably more than a typical Windows XP icon needs (approx. 25kB). Microsoft solved this problem by extending the icon format.

Vista icons store the images in icons using PNG compression. With PNG compression, the size of an icon is reduced. Because PNG is loss-less and supports 8bit alpha channel, the quality of icon is maintained.

Current Vista icons use compression for the large 256×256 formats only. This makes the icons backwards compatible with previous systems. Windows XP will ignore the high resolution images and load the standard 48×48 pixels images.

It is possible to compress all images in an icon. Such icons will occupy even less space and they will work without problems in Vista. They will of course fail under Windows XP.

Creating and Converting Compressed Icons

Vista compatible icon editor is needed to work with Vista icons. Icon editor authors are adopting the Vista enhancements to the icon format and some of them have already managed to release an updated version of their software. A Vista icon is created by simply adding high resolution images and by selecting the Vista format when saving an icon.

Some editors also allow extracting Vista icons from executable files and converting them to XP icons (e.g. saving them without compression).

Conclusion

Microsoft improved the visuals of Windows delivered a future-proof solution compatible with high-end system as well as with lower definition screens. The 256×256 icon images allow icon authors to add more details and make the icons more appealing under wide range of conditions.

The information in this article is relevant for Windows Vista Beta 1. Vista icons specifications are preliminary and subject to change.

PC Remote Control on Guard of Peaceful Holidays

Almost three out of every four full-time workers are being called into the office on their days off or during holidays. Fortunately PC Remote Control software can easily solve this problem.

Keywords:
pc remote control, anyplace control, remote control software, remote access, remote pc

Sitting in a hot office or driving along the melting road people are striving for the summer vocations to begin. Everybody plans to make a trip abroad, visit the people whom they haven’t seen for ages or simply enjoy peaceful rest with the family.

However it’s a common situation that all plans to have a splendid rest flop like a bubble. The most annoying is that vocations are usually spoiled because of things far less notable than a hurricane. Simply the manager has forgotten in what folder is the necessary file, or a close friend needs some PC-related help. Also there are such CEOs that don’t care about employees being at the other end of the world, and want to see them the next day in the office just to hold a 15 minute meeting.

Still all upper mentioned situations have one thing in common. They are easily solved with the PC remote control software. And Anyplace Control Software is glad to introduce such a software that is not only on guard of the peaceful holidays but keeps fuss away all the year round.

Anyplace Control is PC remote control program capable of displaying remote PC desktop and enables using local keyboard and mouse to control it remotely. And the innovative connectivity scheme keeps remote machine accessible from any place in the world that is connected to the web. While another piece of good news is that Anyplace Control is router- and firewall-friendly, so there is no need to be a network guru to hook up the necessary computers. And on top of the cream is the improved screen grabbing feature that gives the real comfort during PC remote control session, so it’s not that hard to forget that you are currently working on a PC located 100 miles away.

Anyplace Control is pretty easy to set up. The software consists of Admin and Host modules that should be installed on the local PC and a remote one respectively. These PCs must be connected with each other either via LAN or via Internet. The way PCs are connected with each other determines which of the two PC remote control connectivity schemes is used: for computers in the same LAN/WLAN, connection is established directly via IP addresses, while computers accessing the web are hooked through Anyplace’s Gateway server using an account name and a nickname.

Besides its main PC remote control feature Anyplace Control enables direct file transfer with the target machine as well. All kinds of personal data, presentations, deadly important reports, and even million dollar worth contract can be transferred directly with Anyplace Control file transfer feature protected with CHAP authentication and RC4 128-bit random key. And this means that spam arrester blocking e-mail attachments or FTP being down won’t make the work to halt again.

Get connected to any necessary computer remotely from any place in the world with Anyplace Control and make sure that vocation won’t be ruined by an annoying nuisance. By hook or by crook, get a free evaluation version of PC remote control utility from http://www.anyplace-control.com/
